HOW IT ALL STARTED
StarStock was set up in 2012, when founder Sam Ulph (ex professional rugby player and Ex-Molson Coors) who had spent years selling brands into pubs, grew increasingly frustrated by the lack of control over pricing for both brands and licensees. There were no direct relationships between the pubs and the brands which meant a real lack of understanding and transparency on both sides, and of course huge opportunities that were being missed. Not to mention margins that were being eaten into on both sides.

Next stop was to bring in an MD with over 30 years experience in the drinks industry, Phil Newton, to run the business. Together they have hired a world class team of innovative thinkers and developers (who are passionate about pubs!) to create a first of its kind one-stop-shop for the ontrade. Backed by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and chaired by Baron Mervyn Davies, StarStock has rooted itself firmly in the F&D world, bringing technology and innovation to an industry that needs it right now more than ever.
HOW DOES THE LICENSEE BENEFIT?
The platform helps businesses maximise margins by giving operators total control of their supplies, stock and costs. It creates a more transparent marketplace that gives value back to the operator, along with the convenience of 24/7 ordering and national deliveries.
WHAT ABOUT BRANDS?
Brand owners, on the other hand are able to have greater control over pricing and pass savings onto their customers and retain increased margin. The platform also has a data analysis component, which allows brand owners to better serve the publican’s needs, giving them what they want, when they need it.
WHO FULFILS THE ORDERS?
We have teamed up with a leading logistics company GXO who manage the warehousing, order fulfilment, returns and oversee the delivery of products to venues that place online orders, and TreviPay who take the payment.
HELP PUBS THRIVE NOT JUST SURVIVE
At StarStock we love pubs. We recognize that the independent pub, bar and restaurant sector has been one of the very hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic which is why we set up the My Pub Shop not-for-profit site during lock-down to help them generate erevenue in such a challenging time. But we’re now here to stay, and this has shown the industry the importance of technology in order to continue trading and drive revenue.
